I want to somehow construct an above tank basking spot for a 75 gallon tank so I can have a fully filled aquarium with fish and a turtle. Any ideas on how I could do this?

My main dilemma is that I have one of those glass versatops, so the entire top is covered by glass except for about a 2 inch wide strip down the length of the tank in plastic. How could I get around this?

If I somehow find a way around my problem, I was thinking of making a box out of acrylic sheets and aquarium silcone/sealant. How thick should I buy it?

That is something I've wondered about for awhile, but I run into two problems.
1. My fish jump, so even if I could figure it out, I couldn't figure out how to let the turtle out and keep the fish in.
2. If I set it up differently, with some of my non-jumping fish, I'd have to figure out how to not have my turtle eat the fish.
Seriously, this has kept me awake at night. I have a stink pot turtle that I'd like to set up in an established tank, and I'd like him to be able to get out completely if he wants. I've come up with cool ideas, but I can't get past those two things. I also have a painted turtle and some sliders that could make a cool addition to an aquarium if I could address the two above issues.
What are you keeping with your turtle?

I've got the fish right now with no turtle. I have an arowana and a fire eel in a 75 gallon and wanted to add a turtle

check out this thread of mine. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...05-120-gallon-plywood-acrylic-tank&highlight=
i have a 120 gallon plywood tank that i built that incorporates an above tank basking area for my western painted turtle. i have seen people make similar enclosers for their turtles. mine is built in but i would solve the jumping fish problem. so in this case you could build a full hood to cover your tank make the front to that it opens up for maintenance and feeding and then put a cover over it to support lights. i used a screen top so i could put all my lights on top of the screen.

is the top removable on your tank if so i would completely remove it and a full hood simmular to mine would keep your fish inside the tank. i keep African cichlids in my tank with my turtle
