I have been using abs pipe in my aquariums for a very long time with no issue.until the other day my buddie told me that abs will kill my fish.I have had no issues and started to do some research on it.

Abs is non toxic maybe toxic when wet or uncured but i am convinced that its safe for fish.we use it in homes and all kinds of buildings "would we really be aloud to use toxic materials in homes and dranage systems that ultimatley get dumped back into water supply" doubtful thats why i am starting this thread to see if anybody had some insight on this subject.

Won't kill your fish. ABS and PVC have to be inert since they're made to carry potable water for human consumption. Even PVC/ABS cement is designed to be inert once fully cured.

Back in the late 70s to mid 80s, polybutyl plastic was used in plumbing but was found to deteriorate quickly. Your buddie may be confusing polybutyl with ABS due to the two being the same color (albeit different finished texture).

It's a myth

ABS is safe for a tank and will not leak any chemicals (harmfull or not) into your tank

You can verify this for your self by looking it up on one of the manufacture;s web sites such as IPEX or Canplas
