I have this idea for a fish tank. I want to do some kind of abstract modern-art type theme.
My idea for decor is a few nice big peices of rock or other type of crystal/geode. There is a gem store in my area that has a very wide variety of cut stones/crystals/rocks.
I am wondering what kinds of stones would be safe/unsafe for an aquarium. are there some common types of minerals that I need to stear clear from?
As much help as possible would be apreciated.

Stick to igneous or metamorphic rocks, avoid most sedimentary rocks. You can test compatibility by putting acetic acid (vinegar) on the rock. If you get a reaction, avoid.

Good tip ewurm.

also no geode is aquarium safe i think

How about crystals like quartz/smokey quartz? I know there is alot of quartz naturally around here and I see it on rocks that are in alot of lakes and ponds with plenty of fish in them. Would it be ok to put in an aquarium? as long as I keep an eye on water parameters.
