So i was wondering how some of u do filter maintenance on these filters as i have 4 of them running on different tanks.. for example i rinse out the filter pads and every 6 months i change out the carbon..just wondering if anyone buys new sponges for the filters often..and if it would make the filter more efficient in doing so..

i have bought new sponges when i had one for a few months that would no longer rinse clean. zucchini i had been feeding totally destroyed it as long as you don't replace the biomax ever you're good

carbon is a waste of space unless there is a reason for it

Rinse foam in aquarium water, not in tap water. IMHO, no use for carbon or ammonia remover if tank properly cycled and mature. Agree more bio or another foam pad. Scrubbies good too if you can have enough space for them.

In my ac a run a refillable bag of bio matrix and the sponge. I have never replaced the sponge. I just rinse it out really well. I only clean the filter when it gets really dirty and the water flow has slowed down.

id add some scrubbies to up the bio, you will basically double your biological potential
