came home today and my ac 70 stopped running sometime during the day. the motor was quite warm. i took everything apart and cleaned it real good, nothing looked out of place or worn, put it back together and it works, but is noisy as hell. always was but not like this. what gives? if it stalls out again, is this a fire hazard?

Noise coming from the motor/impeller or the lid vibrating? AC filters are notorious for their lids warping and then vibrating resulting in a very irritating noise/humming. If thats the case just set something on top of the lid to stop of from moving.

If on the other hand it is coming from the impeller/motor, make sure you have cleaned it in and out very well. Try and get a kit of brushes similar to those used to clean brass instruments, and clean down in the motor inside and out. Make sure there is no debris in there. Put it back together and you should be good to go.

Was there some sort of blackout? My AC50 did that when there was a brief blackout. The impeller just stopped moving. I then searched online and it seems to be a common issue with the AC during a power outage. All I did was take a toothpick and poked the impeller and it started moving again.

Also, I cleaned out the filter last week and washed the impeller. When I turned it back on it was a lot more noisier than usual. However, the noise subsided and it's back to how it was before.

Chattering Impellers can mean scaring on the magnet surface or swelling / shrinking of impeller or orifice due to heat. If the impeller appears and feels smooth to the touch, and the inside orifice of the motor is as well, you may need a new impeller.

well, no blackout, its not the lid. will try cleaning again tonight and see where that leaves me. was running when i got home noise is better but still noisier then usual. if cleaning dont help ill check out a new impeller. cant cost too much do they??? thanks for the input

just upgrade to ac110 way bigger filter, this way you can carry more bio media. i would not risk using a filter i thougt that might fail ,to risky.

It happened to me once. I turned it off, and turned it on after a few hours when it had cooled down. Problem solved.

wow. took it apart, used a q-tip (same as last time) got very little stuff out, enough to stain q-tip anyways, rinsed it all out, and its more quiet than its ever been. thnx again

Glad to hear it. I have always had great luck with AC. Not much can go wrong with them.
