Hi everyone. I'm new to MFK. I've been a user on AC (aquariacentral.com) for about a month now and I commonly see links to this forum so I thought I'd sign up. Only 1 problem though: Now I'm going to be checking 2 forums on a regular basis and I already spend too much time on the computer and my iphone. I've added my tanks to my signature and I'll go ahead and post some pictures here in this thread to give you an idea of what I'm working with.
I guess I'll let you know some things about me. I'm somewhat happily married with 2 beautiful girls, Kira (4yr) and Anaiah (2yr). I live in Hawaii, but before you comment on how great that must be, keep in mind that I am stationed here. I'm in the Army bomb squad which is more appropriately titled EOD, or Explosive Ordnance Disposal. My job was recently featured on the film Hurt Locker....however the movie did many things innappropriatly but that is to be expected.
The reason I got into the aquarium hobby is because ever since I was a little kid I wanted to have a huge aquarium. I had dreams of entire walls of my room being aquariums. Unfortunately, all I ever had was a goldfish in a glass bowl. Now I have a bit of financial backing and I've got a few tanks.
I'm interested in DiY projects. My 40g long is on my dresser upstairs and I'm worried it's going to damage the dresser so I'd like to get a stand for it. I was thinking a stand that could hold perhaps a 55g on top and a 40g on bottom so that I could use it as an excuse to get a new tank as well. I was also interested in setting up a sump with my next tank just because I've never done it and want to check out how it all works. Maybe a salt water tank, who knows.
