Ac110 filter intake alternatives.

Hey guys, I'm having an issue with my ac110. It's basically a snail vacuum. Over half a dozen large snails have been turned inside out by the powerful suction of the intake. Similarly some of my smaller shrimp have gone the way of the dinosaur from the same intake. I have tried some netting and sponge like covers on the intake but it backs the filter up so much it might as well not be running.

buy some 10ppi poret 4x4" cube material and slip a 6" section over the intake. shouldn't noticeably reduce your flow, and 10 ppi should hardly ever clog. you'll probable still get some snails in your filter though, the small ones will crawl everywhere.

The sponge filter backs up the ac110 too much, done that already.

I think what I,m gonna do is drill the last intake extension.

Try a Tom surface skimmer. They are about $10 and it should solve your problem. You can adjust the flow between the bottom and the top - I.e. reduce the suction on the bottom by diverting it to the top "skimmer." Added bonus is it keeps the surface of the water nice and clean.
