AC110 for Mechanical?

I think I need more mechanical filtering on my 120g tank. Right now I have an Eheim 2250 and Eheim 2217 which is probably more than enough bio filtering for the tank. However, I don't think there's enough mechanical filtering with those two. So I'm thinking of getting the AC110. Would that be good for mechanical filtering? I know a lot of people here have the AC110 so any comments would be great. Any other suggestions for mechanical filtering?

Awesome choice. Load it up with sponge, ignore carbon and ceramic noodles, and you have a mechanical machine.

Yeah, I was thinking of putting in 2 sponges instead of the other carbon and bio media. I guess I will order one then.
