I was thinking of keeping a gulper in 30 gallon long and use an ac110 as main filter and sponge filter run with air to polish the water is that overkill.

30g is way too tiny for gulper cats they can get 20"+.

Agreed. Never had a gulper but I have seen a grown one and it would be pretty pissed in a 30 gallon

AC110, I have 3 on a 180 and it moves the water pretty well.

On this forum onion01 suggested a forty gallon tank would be good for one gulper. Which in captivity they will be only 11 inches . I think most people who own gulpers says that they only basicly just hang out in one spot near a powerhead or filter cause they enjoy the current. A 30 gallon long is 36 1/4L x 1612 5/8 W x 16 H and a 45 gallon tank is the about same dimension though the height is 23 1/4. Those two size is pretty common size availble in New England area. The area is the same in regards to L & W. The height of tank is different and of cause their is 10 gallon more water. Is amount of water more important or area to swim in. I could ad a powerhead with sponge filter attachment for more biological filtration that may offset less water

question answered

I've just recently purchased a used AC 110 from my LFS... turns out all it needed was some cleaning and it looks like brand new... (without some media)...

I'm currently using it in a 60 gallon and i really like it... It actually moves water better than my external Eheim 2234.. but it is noisy..

I think AC 110 is good for 30 gallon, but.. not for the fish i think..

i run a ac 110 on a 20, also run a pair on a 75........the filters will work out great

looks like i need not beat the horse with tank size for fish issues
