Hello I have a ac110 in a 55 gallon tank,,, in the past I have just used a sponge and Carbon,,,,, 3 or 4 weeks ago I took that out and stuffed it packed with maybe 10 or 11 pot scrubbers,,, so it can somewhat act as a mechanical filtration.... then added 1 Liter of Seachem Matrix... It fits there nice and snug and there is alot of water flow....

my problem is,,, before I added the pot scrubbers and matrix my water was crystal clear.....

Since I have added the pot scrubbers and matrix,, my water is cloudy... my nitrate levals are low and normal now... why is my water still cloudy??

Should i be using sponge? or shjould the pot scrubbers and matrix be good enough to keep it clear?

Keep the large block sponge that comes with the filter, it is a great mechanical filter. Instead of adding pot scrubbers or bioballs, anything of that nature, I would recommend using ceramic rings, eheim subtrat pro, or even the biomax out of the box is a great bio media. You limit yourself when you use larger things such as pot scrubbers in a smaller filter such as that. (those are great for sumps, some may argue canisters as well ). So keep the block sponge, and pack the rest with smaller more porous bio media.

I use the large foam, 2 bags of biomax, and three bags of purigen in my ac 110's. Fits nice and snug. I run three ac 110's on my 125 gallon and the water is always crystal clear

Did you rinse the matrix really good?

Ya what he said, the matrix has alot of dust on it when new. Your best bet would be to ditch the pot scrubbies and use the foam sponge. I rinse the foam in mine on a weekly basis. Put the matrix in a mess bag and place atop the sponge. Having the matrix in the mess bag will make it easier to move when cleaning the foam sponge.

I but I have done tons of water changes. it stays clear for maybe a few days,,, then poof its cloudy then,,,, So im taking it the pot scrubbers dont work that well for mechanical filtration? and removing small particals? I have jammed probaly 12 Pot scrubbers to cover as much surface area as I could in the AC110... also I have squeezed 1 liter of matrix as well... it only stays clear for 2 days.... COuld it be the NLS Thera A food.... OMega cichlid food or Omega Shrimp Pellets? that makes it cloudy?
