Lookin to set up my new 30 standard footprint. Would it be overkill to use an AC110 on it? or is the AC70 sufficient?
Stock will include a senegal and african butterfly.

I had AC110 on my 20g, it did great but way too strong tho fish adapted. had to turn off during feedings. I changed to AC70 on my 20g, satisfied. but I think AC110 is fine for your 30g.

some say good rule is double your tank volume when buying filters. so AC70 or AC110 is good, I would go with AC110

go to www.kensfish.com I found them with very good prices & shipping cost is very modest. + u can order his foods, great quality & heaters/meds great prices. I have bought Prime, flakes, AC70, meds from him.

nothing wrong with that.. Def try it!

Something to consider, the african butterfly will not like high surface current.

do you already have the AC110? if so, use it, you can always leave it in the lower flow mode if you find the current is a bit high.

if not, unless you are planning on upgrading, its probably not worth spending the extra cash on the 110 when the 70 size works very well.
I agree I also use a AC70 on my 30 GL and seems to do the job well.

I was thinking of purchasing as i dont have one currently. An upugrade isnt in the near future, so the 30 will stick around for at least 2 to 3 years.

That is a good point, as he/she prefers less surface current.

It also depends on the fish you want to keep. Like Bderick67 mentioned...if it's a surface dweller, it won't like the high output of an AC110. I have an AC110 and a Penguin 350 on a 20g, but I use it more like a quarantine/hospital tank. I had one of my Bichir in there and it was fine.
