I'm planning on setting up a 50 gl tank with flowerhon on it what is the best thing to choose got this filters on hand so just choosing between which to use.

A) AC 110
B)2 units of AC 70

I read somewhere 2 70's use less hydro than 1 110. With 2 70's you could clean 1 and leave 1 running so you wouldn't risk losing all your good bb.

1 AC 110.

there is more to it than media.

if your power goes out, the AC110's restart no matter how dirty the impeller chamber is.

the AC70's gum up easily and often do not restart when the power goes out without flicking the impeller with your finger.

with AC70's, you could come home from vacation to dead fish.

not so with the 110's. the impeller chamber is bigger and the impeller never gums up enough that it won't restart.

I voted for the 2 ac70's........For one reason:bio media........When you do the monthly filter cleanup, you leave the other filter running....WHY??????Because you left the other filter untouched, you still have a descent biological system.....

wow i must be anal I have all acs and Ive never had them get so dirty that the impeller wont start up again??

its a common issue with all the AC's from the 70 on down. not with the 110, which is really good.

what I have found is that even with regular cleaning, they get gummed up enough very quickly. starting after a power blip is easy - if someone is home.

but I have always had overstocked tanks over the years, so perhaps that is why mine used to gum up so fast? probably thats why..

I have 2 AC 70S on my 90g with 1 flowerhorn and a pleco and it is crystal clear. I love it.
