Alright, I have my 125 set up now, and between my W/D and Fx5 i have plenty of bio filtration. I want to use my AC as a 100% mech filter. I planned on having the normal 110 foam on the bottom, but does anyone have any good suggestions for some finer foam for the next 1-2 levels in the filter? Maybe a real fine foam for water polishing on top? Thanks for the help.

I would order another factory sponge so it fits well in the slide out tray and be done. I use a few of these as pure mechanical and they work great. Double up on sponge and let er' rip.. The fine pads always seem to clog quickly and I get clear water without polishing pads so IMO it's a waste.

Ok thanks. I actually saw one in one of your threads and that gave me the idea. I saw that you had different pads so i thought there was some secret to it. I'll give 2 factory sponges a shot.

Ohhh! I think I know which thread you mean. Yeah I took an Eheim round course mech pad and cut it into squares to fit the size of the tray. If you don't want to spend extra $$$ on a factory one, you can always head down to the LFS and pick up whatever generic large size they have (so long as it's course) and cut it to fit yourself. It's just foam so it only take a minute or two to chop up.

Start a thread on converting it over, AC110 are used by allot of people. Others might benifit from your idea.

Ok, I think I might just do that. Thanks for both of your guy's help.

Thats what they are best for if you can utilize this actually.
I maintain bio through a thick substrate base, and I just juggle the cleaning schedules of the foam so as to keep bio.

A lot of people don't realize that sponges make decent bio media as well. They might not be as good as a high quality ceramic media, but they still work.

You COULD always add a sponge filter in the tank, which would handle your bio no problem. :)
