AC50 HELP with NOISE

I have an older ac 50 sittin under my aquarium in the cabinet. I got it out to boost my filtration in my 55 and soon to be 75. Its making a whirring noise, almost like it has air in it. How do I make it stop? Its in my living room so it needs to be fairly quiet. My other one is whisper quiet and it doesn't bother me and is my bedroom.

kind of sounds like the inlet pipe is not seated on the impeller properly, make sure that its sitting in there right, i have had that happen before and it also makes the GPH drop substantially, if that doesnt work read this thread.

Has it ever been on a tank with sand in it?

Never, that I know of. I got it used with a tank. But that tank had gravel for I believe for the lifetime of it. I'm pretty sure it never has. It drives me insane because I wish it was quieter so I could use it.

I got a new motor off of a 50 that was ran for only 3 months. It still made the rattling noise so i think i need a new impeller. Anyone know the cheapest place for new impellers? I have two ac 50's in need of an impeller now.

you are correct. I just picked one up today and it says lifetime on the side of the box.

How would I go about it? I don't have the box or receipt just the filter but have all the original parts.
