So I have a couple extra AC70s and on my 20g tall (growout/quarrantine/hospital tank) I have a penguin 125.

If I remove the Peg125 and place an AC70 do you think it's too much for the 20 tall?

I'm guessing no, but want to get some input from you guys. :D

I don't think it will be too much. When I setup my 20 gallon long the general consensus on the boards was to use two AC50s or AC70s. I didn't feel the need for that much filtration or the extra cost and stuck with two AC30s (15x turnover rate) and my tank seems to be fine with my messy Fathead minnows. I guess I'll know more when I add my native fish here in the next few weeks...

i run a 70 on a 15 gallon tank. i think it is just right........but it does move the substrate around when the water level gets low

You could always adjust the intake tube of the AC70 for a decreased flow rate.

FWIW, I have an AC50 on a 26g and it's working very well. However, if you have an overstocked tank or some super messy fish, then maybe the AC70 would be ok on a 20g. I think the current will be pretty strong though, so depending on the type of fish you have you may or may not want all that much water movement.

I've used an AC 110 on a 29 gal tank that contained a breeding pair of Apistos (Dwarf Cichlids). When the Cichlids were young they had no problems with the current, once they started breeding I plut sponge prefilter over the intake which slowed the filoter down a little and the fry had no problems swimming.

Naturally the tank was kept quite clean by this filter.

I think you would be fine, and if it ends up being a little mroe current than desired, use a prefilter...

Hey man , good to see you around again ! Been a while PM me :)

An AC70 should be fine unless you are keeping a betta or a super sensitive fish to current.

Thanks. I'm thinking the AC70 won't be a problem.

Tank is bare for easy clean and feeding.

Thanks. Right not growing out two flagtails so I don't think the current will be a problem.

I never say no to overfiltration.

Same here, was more worried about the current, but if others have similar tanks/filters with no problems than it looks like it will be a go.

Wow that is alot of turnover in your 29. I'll use a prefilter if the current is too much. Thanks again.

Nice, I just moved a penguin125 to my 10g, sounding like the AC70 should be fine on my 20t.

Thanks again everyone, appreciate the input and I'll be putting the AC70 on the tank sometime soon. :headbang2
