My female laid eggs yesterday and she is keeping the male away from the eggs and they approach one another and mouth lock and then dash to opposite ends of the tank. Is this normal and should i remove the male. She is fanning the eggs herself.

Cichlids in general are rough with each other if there's no damage being done and moms fanning I would leave it alone.
But if you want to try to save some fry I would set up a small tank with sponge filter and heater.
As soon as they are free swimming siphon out about half and leave the other half for the parents to try to raise.

Yes I would either divide or remove the male . Had the same experience when my female EBA stressed the male out to the point I had to nurse the male back to health. What size is your aquarium?

Every fish is different and my experience was opposite of Tlindsey my EBA spawning went smoothly and both parents got along raising the fry together.
If you are concerned and you have the space there is nothing wrong with moving the male if you wish.
Cichlids will be tough on each other but recognizing the difference between what is normal banter and actual damage being done is something you will have to distinguish for yourself.
