Hi, my partner has a sub adult male Acarichthys heckelii that recently developed a small lump/growth on his face about 2-3 weeks ago. We quarantined him immediately upon discovering the lump and have so far tried internal bacteria treatment, tonic salt, and acriflavine, as well as frequent water changes between treatments.
In the last week the fish has developed reddening of the pectoral fin bases, and two new lumps have appeared in the last 48 hours. This morning we noticed what appears to be a globule of white pus coming from his left nostril.
Prior to moving the fish he was housed in a 350 litre tank with external filtration of a rate of 1200 litres/hour. Water quality has never been an issue, no ammonia, nil to trace nitrates, no nitrites. pH is 6.5-7.0. Hardness is around 8 degrees, temperature 26C. Water changes are performed from between 15-20% per week to 30-50% every fortnight.
All the other fish are fine. This problem occurred a year or two ago with a young heckellii my partner owned, it broke out in lumps over the space of a few months and eventually we lost it. At the time our LFS lost the same batch of heckellii and put it down to a bad batch. However, we are concerned this is the same disease.
My partner has been keeping tropical fish for over 5 years, and myself over 10, and we have never come across this before, except for in the last heckelli my partner owned. I will try to get some photographs later on and post them up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
