Hi everyone!
I have a 125g with current stock of 2 severums, 1angel, 5 Bolivian rams and a clown plec. I would like to add a group of threadfin acaras but need to kno if anyone has kept them with Bolivians and what would be a good number? Also add a hypselecara temporalis and a group of spotted silver dollars, thinking 3-5. I have 4 Aquaclear 110s and do a 30% water change every week. Would love thoughts, ideas and any comments!!!! Thanks

Although I have not kept them with Rams, I have kept Acarichthys in a 150 gal with many small cichlids, as small as 2" Cryptoheros nanoluteus, and found them to be generally non-aggressive with the other species.
They tend to get aggressive with each other after about 7", and when rutting season begins. I started with five 2" juvies a few years ago, they have recently whittled themselves down to a 7" pair.

I'm glad to hear they would work with the rams, I was hoping for a "group" long term, any suggestions? I was looking at the red head tapatios also.

I have 7 of them in my 6' 225g. I have them with a big female gold sev, a tiny pair of red hump GEOS, and schools of black skirt and BA tetras. They all get along just fine. My threadfins are around 5" or so. So I haven't quite hit the aggressive size yet. But so far so good.

Thanks duane's! They are just beautiful....I think im going to try them! With my stock I listed what would b a good number??

I always like to get 5 or more of any cichlid. In that way, aggression and squabbling seems to center the focus non-lethally within the group, as opposed outward toward other species.
This seems to work well with Geophagines, kept as a single individual in a diverse community, they seem to become aggressive with any other fish in the tank, or cower in a corner.
If in non-bonded pairs, one usually ends up dead for me.
By Geophagines I include Acarichthys, Guianacara, and Gymnogeophagus, among others.
Guianacara

all the geophagines below I consider cool water fish, and would not house them with northern tropical types
Geophagus iporangensus

Gymnogeophagus balzani

Gymno quilero

Gymno sp Paso Pache
