Not sure where this goes but...
What would be an acceptable pH for my community.
I have a ropefish, 1 royal pleco, 1 dwarf gourami, 1 black molly (soon to get a few more), an emerald cory, mystery snail and 1 feeder goldfish that has not been eaten for 4 weeks (too big now) and 3 others that have been here for a week or so.
i did a 50% wc tonight b/c i think the liquid fert that i used killed a female molly and my betta yesterday and today and my pH is currently between 6.6 and 7 but im having trouble telling which one...i am using a liquid test kit (API fw master test kit).
Thanks for any advice!

P.S.
the lady at the lfs couldnt figure out how to open the liquid test kit when testing water today when i took dead molly back and said "oh i'll just use the strips they are more accurate for me anyway"
and she said that my pH of 6.2 killed the molly that i had for 2 days....
and i did a pH when i got home (before the wc) and my test kit said 6.6 then.

Your PH is awesome, just keep it constant by doing weekly water changes. Almost any tapwater PH is fine.

As for the dead fish, what are your other water parameters (i.e. ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) and how long has the tank been running?

the fish started acting weird soon after i put it in the tank, the other molly i got w/ it is doing just fine.
Everything is great.
Ammonia 0
-ite 0
-ate 0
my tank has been set up for over a month i think
the woman is a tard and doesnt know what she is talkin about...
i do wc every thurs between 75% and 50%

Did you acclimate it? Sounds like the molly was just a goner from the start. I would find a different LFS if I was you. Part of the reason I take the 1-2hr bus ride to the 2 good ones in my area is for the good advice. If you got the molly at a PetSmart/PetCo type place ask for a refund. A shop shouldn't hesitate to refund your money if the water params are fine.

That lady doesn't know what she's talking about. Almost any tap water ph is fine as long as it's consistent. I know somebody who breeds "acidic and soft water only killies" in very hard Phoenix tap water with a ph of around 7.8.

it was acclimated for 20 min. just like the other molly in the bag w/ it and the african dwarf frog.
yea it was a petsmart and it and petco are the only lfs around where i go to school and it is a 45 min drive from here to there....so here's to wasting a quarter of a tank of gas on a $2 fish only for a refund

LOL I don't waste the bus money on cheap fish either. If the manager knows his stuff you might talk to him the next time you go in and see if you can get a store credit. At least inform him he needs to train his employees better. Ask for the Specialty/Pet Care manager or they will have no idea what the heck you're talking about.;)

lolz the guy who normally works there is honest and he is like "im not the fish guy but if you give me a day or two ill find out for you" and he said the manager is scared of fish and that is why he is always back there...:screwy:
