In one of my Malawi tanks I have 1 S. Fryeri, 2 P. Acei, and 1 A. Jacobfreibergi. I figured the Jacob was a male but it was far from being dominant, but it appears it is a female because now it is holding. I feel the only culprit could be my Fryeri because I didnt think mbuna would cross breed with a hap/peacock. I did not mean for this to happen and I dont want a hybrid, should I just let her spit them and hope that the other fish in the tank eat them, or what should I do?

Well the father is my avatar, I was curious to see what they look like, but at the same time I am completely against hybridization. So I am torn.

Mbunas can be breed with peacocks so you never know who did it. If the eggs are fertile and hatch just wait until she spits them out and let nature do the rest. If you want, you can always keep the hybrid fry for yourself and see what they look like. Just don't spread them around and everything will be fine.

Just don't distribute them under a pure or incorrect name and no harm will be done. There is no reason to freak out and kill them all. If you like what they turn into, keep them for your own enjoyment. If you don't, then catch them and use them/sell them for feeders later on.

If my Fryeri is the dominant fish in the tank wouldnt he be the most likely culprit, the Acei stay together and they are a pair. Would the male Acei break away from the female Acei to breed with the peacock? Is my Acei that shallow? Does he just chase any pretty tail that swims in front of him? :naughty:

Keep them and see what they are. How many? Just put them in a 10 gal for a short time.
