I'm thinking about buying an Angelfish I saw in a local fish store. The tank it's kept in is on a R O system and has a PH of 5.5. My tank at home has a PH of 6.8. No R O system. I Just change my water 50% 2 times a week. Have a FluvalFX5 and 2 Aquaclear 110 filtering it. I know how to acclimate. I usually take about an hour to acclimate new fish. Do you think there will be any problem. Btw it's a 90 gallon tank with 10 Angels and a couple of bristle nose Plecos.

I've acclimated thousands and thousands of fish over the years (I import and sell discus) and I have always used the drop-and-plop method. I take the fish out of the bag water and put it right into the tank, no acclimation. If you were going from a high pH to a low one, you'd want a slower acclimation to avoid burning the fish. When it's the other way around, that's not really an issue.

I've read that it takes a fish several weeks to fully adapt to a new pH, so an hour acclimation really isn't that much less stressful than an immediate one. I like to get them out of the bag ASAP to prevent any built-up ammonia from burning the fish.

I would quarantine the new fish for a while separate from your other stock. There's nothing worse than watching 10 angels get sick because of something a new one brought home from the shop.

Thanks. I have a 20 gallon tank that I have used in the past to quarantine before. I'll use that. The other 10 Angels are all High Coverage Orange Koi's. The Angel I'm thinking of getting is a Black Zebra Lace Angel. Would like him or her to pair off with one of the Koi's I have. Wondering what the offspring would look like?
