I think my Acei are breeding. They're in a 46 gallon tank and they chase each toher around in a very tight circle. They're juvies, at about 2 inches, maybe three. I have rocks, and that's about the only place they do that. I've heard they might be getting territorial, but I'm not completely sure.I just tested for Nitrites (0), pH (around 7.8) and ammonia (around .15 ppm.). would the hardness effect this? If they are breeding, do I need anything special? food?

Is one trying to shiver, or shake in front of the other? Congrats by the way if they are trying to breed. My acei bred (finally) at about 3". They are mouth brooders which means the female holds the babies in her mouth until they are free swimming, so she won't eat for about 3-4 weeks. Just let them do their thing there really isn't anything you need to do unless you want to keep the fry. Keep in mind that first time mothers may not hold the full time. Sometimes it takes a few tries. If you want to keep the babies you can move the female to a separate tank after about 3 weeks of holding. Once she spits the babies remove them and they should eat crushed flake right away.

But I'm not even sure they were. it was about a week ago, and the mouth isn't getting any bigger, which I read was a sign of holding. they're eating, too. I just think they were getting territorial.
