Hawaii
Hey everyone, I am from Hawaii and nice cats are hard to come by here. Well anyways, I recently purchased a 9in achara cat which currently resides alone in a 65g (36''x18'') tank. Im pretty sure he'll outgrow his home sooner or later. How fast do you guys think he'll grow and does this depend on how often, when, and what i feed him? Right now I got him going off of sinking pellets once or twice a day (poor guy gotta get him some beef heart and shrimp one day). I've did a search on this and found various answers. Also if there is anyone from Hawaii willing to take him when he becomes a real monster in the future please let me know. Thanks everyone, Happy new year.

Several websites say 75 gallons minimum for this guy. The bigger the tank the better though. Let me know if you're still interested when you get settled. Ill keep you posted if he outgrows the tank really fast. Thanks

Good to see more locals on this forum. You need at least a 100, probably bigger. A friend of mine has 2 in a 260gal and they are both anywhere from 22-24in long.

Thanks for the info, do you know anything about the legal systems about keeping certain types of fish in Hawaii. I've always been meaning to get a 200-300 gal tank but have been holding back since there havent been much variety of monster freshwater fish available at any LFS.

yeah, the system in hawaii sucks. Just think of any cool monster fish, chances are they would be on the prohibited list. Pretty much the only large predatory catfish you can get are the acharas, planiceps, and.....thats about it. If not, go check out the dept. of Ag. They have the list posted on there website. Not sure about the web address though.

Im on Oahu, thanks for finding the list. Was suprised to see one of the LFS stock full of baby paroon sharks the other day. I was able to resist as those things probably destroy my house. Thanks again!
