I’m sure this will come as a shock to no one considering Achara are a champion grower but sometimes it’s just better to have the visual comparison. I got my Achara in early September at about 2.5” to growout with my baby bass. I didn’t see him much, being especially shy while young. But by October 16th he was almost 4.5”, not impressive but I believe it was due to him being so shy he wouldn’t even come out to eat unless super hungry.

Fast forward to now, a little over 2 months later, in my monster 550 with no shortage of space and hidey holes near feedings to keep my bottom feeders happy... he is now over 12”, probably closer to 14”. For comparison in these photos the rock behind him is roughly 9” and the flagtail is 6.5”. With high protein foods and clean water he has shot up 8-10” in ~2 months.
He’s finally become less skittish too which makes me happy but every time he comes out now I’m like “...f***”. Finally got some pics of him so here’s a pic of him from early October vs today.F5500D7B-093F-4B8E-93E0-84DDEB887B64.png

Very nice, I believe it was J jaws7777 that had one that he had to rehome as he got too large too soon. Jaws, could you confirm or deny this?

Wasnt me. I had a vulture that I rehomed before we moved

That is more or less typical. If you are lucky and this specimen stays relatively small (I guess the males do) due to gender and genes, you might be able to keep it for a long time / life in that 550 gal but it might prove to be skittish again when fully grown and could destroy your pretty but fragile aquascape when darting around. I guess time will show.

Please come back to this thread and update regularly, if you will. By regular it could be weekly or yearly, needless to say.
