what substrate do you suggest if you want to achieve a slightly acidic freshwater setup? this is for an asian arowana community, target ph level is around 6.5, water from the tap normally reads 7.2 - 7.5

i just use a pH buffer for 6.5. it works perfectly as my pH is about 7.2. i just have a gravel substrate

I just use lots of wood. It does a good job of keeping my water pH down.
after ive soaked and boiled it never seems to make that much difference. although i know you do that too, so its prob i dont have enough bogwood to make a difference

It doesn't change fast, but it will change. I have 100lbs in my 135 plus peat fiber in my fluval.
