I have kept large fish and aquariums in the past... however I have been out for a long time. I have kept peacock bass, clown knifes, African pike, arrowana, Oscars etc... I am looking for suggestions for a predatory tank that will not be the most wasteful as I know most fish such as this just pollute a tank. I plan to have a tank with a lot of live plants and rocks etc. just curious what the community would suggest. To preface I live in CT so I don't think I can have Piranha.

A big school of exodons would be cool and can be kept with some plants.

Those guys swarm around food like piranhas and are not as shy either.

The only downside would be tankmates, they'd end up eating most things

I never thought of that... they seem pretty cool as an option... do they require a huge filter or would normal filtration fit the bill?

I've never kept piranhas but I think they might be just as messy as they just tear up whatever you throw in there.

But with decent filtration you should be fine with that size tank
