I'm going to build my own stand for a 55 gallon acrilic. Should make a lip around the edge like I have seen or should It just have a plywood top with no lip. It the lip only for glass aquariums? and do I need to worry about scratching the acrilic if I build a lip on it?

I have built 2 stands for acrylic aquariums and put a lip on each one of them. I think they look better with the lip. I does nother for the aquarium, it just hides the bottom edge and makes it look cleaner. My tank is made of 1/2" acrylic sitting on 1/2" foam board and I made my lip 1 1/2" so it only covers a 1/2" of the tank but hides the rest.
