can i just get a piano hinge and little screws so i have access to my tank? what size screws and such do i need to get.... how much am i looking to spend to do this?

piano hinge is fine...but it would be cheaper to go with smaller hinges because you will probably want to go with a high grade stainless (430 or higher) so it won't rust on you. or better yet if you can find a plastic or plexi hing durable enough that would be ideal. gl

a lot of LFS's have the stock plastic hinge designed for the glass tops. That may or may be too thin for the plexi your using but it's really cheap.

when i made my own top i found that the plastic hinges were too large for the plexi, so i went to my local true value and got this super strong clear tape. Then i wrapped the end of the plexi in the tape, making the hinge end thicker . It only took me two layers of the tape to make it thick enough. Just make sure that all the tape will be covered by the hinge and you should be fine. I used the tank for about two years and never had an issue with the lid.
