I have a newer acrylic tank. I used a brand new scrubber for acrylic today. I rinsed it off to make sure nothing was on it, and I still managed to put a good scratch on the acrylic. I was so careful, and it seems like scratches are just unavoidable:(

How do you guys with acrylic tanks clean algae off of the tank without giving it a brand new scratch every time?

I use a shop towel on the inside, sometimes on the outside. You have to check those things thoroughly. Even the smallest particles will scratch the tank.

Yeah although I like acrylic I would never own one again. I like my plecos better and I had a large royal completly ruin my 90 gallon acrylic.

i use a microfiber towel on the inside, jsut do the top portions first then do the sand level on the bottom last. i wave it in the water quite a bit after each section is done too. so far so good.

News paper. Works perfectly.

Thanks for the input guys. This scrubber was brand new, and it still gave me a scratch:irked:

sorry to hear.

for your next tank, go glass. its much better.

I would have. The tank is 260 gallons, and the weight of a glass tank would have been an issue getting down the stairs in a narrow hall way; that's why I went with acrylic.

Wrap the tank in a blanket and slide it on the stairs.

Too late, have the acrylic set up...lol

The acrylic tank was pretty damn heavy too though. 3/4" thick.

Me and my uncle carried his 180 gallon. Heavy as hell.
