For all the naysayers it does work. 1 year running and counting!
I know some people think that the silicone is adhered to the glass and holding the acrylic in between the beads. Well who cares? If that is the case it still works.

This is my 20gallon glass tank with acrylic dividers running for 1 year not on my 180gallon freshwater tank.
My argument to the fact that silicone does not hold on acrylic is in the first picture. The acrylic strips we installed on the acrylic wall to hold the drip plate? If it does not work then why have I had no problems?

Enjoy!

Silicone will adhere to acrylic strong enough to hold in applications like yours, but not strongly enough to build a whole tank out of. I think that's where the "naysayers" come in. I've used acrylic glass and silicone in both of my sumps and no problems either.
