Since I have my tank down and I am moving it, I though I might toss it in the wall.

Question:
I want this to be flush with the sheet rock. If I rip down the sheet rock and put the stand in place, then put up 0.25" thick sheet rock, do you think I can put the tank 0.25" over the edge of the stand?

My Thoughts:
Its Acrylic so its a flat bottom, I think the weight would be on the bottom glass where the actual water is, and not so much on the edge where the wall is? I think the weight is distributed evenly across the whole bottom but should be able to survive a 0.25" resting on the sheet rock.

My Concern:
Number 1 The safety of the Tank itself I scrimped and saved and cried and bleed for over a year to get this tank.
A very distant second the wall, I would be frustrated if I had to rebuild the wall but hey its cheap and easy.

The tank is 7'x2'x2'

I would try to support the 1/4 overhang with a piece of plywood. You can always cover it with trim on the wall.

So other then that you think I would be good to go?

Sounds like it would work to me.

You should be fine. Hardest part for me was moving the electrical around....

Here are a few pic of my old setup!

Well I am lucky the place where I want to put it has nothing there. there is just paneling on the side facing the room, and the other side is in my laundry room. So I can walk to the back of the tank no problems.

When I saw the second picture it scared me for a second, I looked quickly and it looked like a huge spider crack in your beautiful tank.

^ LOL

Just be sure to double brace and re-enforce the wall. Keep us updated...

Hate to sound dumb, but I want to be safe, can you tell me what you mean?

This wall is a false wall essentially it could be removed with no loss of structure to the house. running parallel to the wall about 1.5 inches behind it, is a steel I beam. So I am pretty sure this wall provides no support to the over all structure of the house. I will get photo's of the area today.

yeah brace it with some plywood and put a wood edging around the tank like she did should look really nice oh and is that a freakin sea turtle in that second tank

Pics of build site.

The first pic is the wall in the room I will be taking down and rebuilding. I plane to take the front panel off my stand, and place it in the center of the wall, then rebuild around it, replacing the front panel with dry wall. The stand will be permanitly part of the wall.

The next picture is the back of the wall that I will be taking down, where you can see the Steel I beam.

This last picture shows the side of the back room, this side is an add on bathroom. I will also have to take down a 2' wide section, of this and rebuild it due to about 4 inches of space needed.

On the outside room where you will be viewing, the tank will stop about 2 inches from the bathroom door. But inside the bathroom it extends about 6 inchs past the door, so I will need to move that wall in about 4 inches to allow room for the tank.

So what do you think? you think becuase of the I beam I can just take down the whole wall and redo it? the wall is 7.5' by 8' so I can just buy 2 4'x8' dry wall, and I already have the 2x4's.

Another plus will be the easy access to the electrical to wire lights and the sump, and the floor drain will not be close. for eaiser water changes.
