I want to do something that will prevent water splashing, pooling on top of aquarium and dripping down the sides and back. Can you recommend something you tried that works?

I planned to cut a rectangular hole out of the middle of two pieces of 1/8'' plexi then silicone them down around the access holes. There will be approx. 2" area where water can collect all around the access holes but then fall back into the aquarium once it hits the plexi rim. Do you think this is a solid plan or do you think it will fail?

I just had my plexi access opening lips cut, will silicone them to the aquarium tonight. Maybe this will be helpful to someone who runs pumps and bubblers and ends up with water running down the aquarium due to no lip.
