everybody i know buys magfloat....

I bought a MagFloat for my acrylic tank but have never used it because I too remain concerned. So, I went to Target and purchased a microfiber pad (sponge backing) mounted on a telescoping pole and use that for my tank.

I have a mag float..... It scares me. I use a left over chunk of fine mechanical filter media pad.

I use a Magfloat on all my acrylic tanks. I have scratched my 300 using it as is... I then started to use it with a micro fiber cloth inside and outside of the tank. This worked fine, but you had to make multiple passes to clean the algae of.

I was talking to a friend of mine that owns a LFS and sets up and maintains aquariums. He told me he uses the WHITE scrub pad that is acrylic safe. I tried it and it works great with no scratching.

So now i cut a piece of scrub pad to cover the mag float for in the tank, I spray the outside of the tank with plexus, put a micro cloth on the magfloat on the outside and go to town. 1 pass is all you need with your mag float with this set up...

+1
wash the outside before using and be careful near the gravel

also with the additional material added get a stronger magnet

I use a magfloat and have never had a problem scratching the acrylic. I go slow and You do need to be super careful around the sand. Also I clean it daily to avoid any build up. I tried a competitors (I don't remember the name) and it never seemed to clean the tank. It was guaranteed to never scratch though. It just never seemed to get any thing off.

Do the acrylic mag-floats work on glass tanks? They had them on sale ridiculously cheap at petsmart a few weeks ago; the glass ones were normal price.
