I'm picking up an acrylic 180 this weekend. I went over and saw it today, and it was full of water. There are two cracks in the top bracing of the tank. I want to repair them by installing a strip of acrylic over top the cracks to reinforce. What glue/cement do i use? I saw in a sticky someone used both weld on #3 and weld on #40, whats the difference? What one do i want to use? Is this a product that is available at a Lowe's? How thick do my acrylic strips need to be? Any special type of acrylic? Sorry for all the questions, i'm just excited to get this big tank full of P's.

weldon 3 is super thin....good for joint with near perfect fit as it is drawn into the joint....

i would use a higher number weldon with some body to it.....#16 ???

i would use a piece the same thickness as the cracked piece...cover the cracked area.cement in place.ALLOW TO DRY !!!

agreed, i have fixed acrylic tanks this way, but i used #4, spray on the #4 lay the strip, then run a syringe along the seem and clamp down, acrylic bons well with presure, a Good strong taping will work well too...

So what i gather from all of this is that all the numbers are basically the same solvent with difference levels of viscosity. They all produce a sufficiently strong bond for what I'm doing. My problem now, is finding this stuff. I would prefer to find it locally and avoid the shipping charges that are double the cost of the product. If not, oh well. I need to keep myself from getting in a hurry on this project, its just so easy to get excited!

Not necassarily. If you mis certain ones./.. Well you get FIRE!!! :D

And the difference is mainly the 40 has acrylic in it so it fills... the #3 is just the actual weld compound. It Melts the acrylic together :)

I think i'm going to order Weld On #16 as recommended above. Sounds to be kind of a happy medium. If for some reason anyone disagrees with this please let me know.

Ok here is my plan, wondering if anyone has any advice or criticism. Here is a picture of what i'm planning on doing this evening. The red represents the 2 cracks and the blue are pieces of acrylic i'm cutting to size and adhering over the cracks.
