I got this a 12" scratch in the front of my 180 acrylic tank and its starting to bother me. I think I got it from cleaning the tank with a magnet scrubber and the magnet had a little sand on it. I never remove any scratches from any tank before. do you recommend any quick & affective ways to remove the scratch? the scratch isnt that deep and its on front and is outside of the tank. can i do it without removing the water? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I use the Lifegaurd aquatics kit. Ive repaired scratches inside the tank with fish still in it, so you shouldnt have a problem repairing something on the outside. Just follow the directions and go slow, No circles and treat an area a bit larger than the actual scratch

Novus 1 2 3. Best stuff there is, and can be used on all sorts of plastics. If the scratch is light, you can buff it out by hand. Deep scratches may need wet-sanding with 1000-1500 grit sandpaper and buffing out with a powerful direct-drive buffer.

Hey,

Sorry to hear you have a scratch like that! Go with the Novus Kit, you will get the best results. As long as it is on the outside of the tank you should have no problems at all. If sanding is required, get the finest grit possible to do the job. Most aquarium maintenance guys should know how to do this, so giving one of them a call could be good too.

Good luck with the fix!

If you can't feel the scratch with your finger nail then novus 3 and 2 will work awesome. If you can feel it then you need to wet sand, if you can barely feel it start at 2000 or 2500. The higher you start the less to have to buff out, but if you are not getting anywhere go lower. I like to buff perpendicular to the scratches, that way you can tell when it's gone, then if you move to a higher sand paper to change directions again.

Thank you for all the help. Great news the scratches are gone I went with novus and couldn't be happier. Again thank alot guys

I just did my 300 with the Novus kit....It blew me away....the tank looks brand new....if you get the Novus kit and don;t like it...ship it to me and I'll buy it....that's how good this stuff is....
