I was gave several 4x4 sheets of 1/4" acrylic. The problem is that it is old and the protective sheeting on it is all cracked and will not peel off. Does anyone know how to get this stuff off without to much damage to the acrylic itself?

i would call a shop that sells acrylic and ask them. they may have a solvent that is safe for the acrylic or some tricks they can give you.

I tried the internet...I was told the company had changed hands and "they could'nt help" wtf. So here I am asking MFK. There are no local shops. I was hoping someone here had experiance with this.

No...I've tried that, lighter fluid(naptha), carberator cleaner, and a couple other household chems. to no avail.

I could see the steam method working. Let us know how it turns out.

Well i hope one of these ideas works cuz i have the same problem. I tried filling my bath tub with hot water and soaking it but that didn't work.

Have you tried that Goof-Off/Goop-Off stuff? (sp?) that stuff really works at removing adhesives.
