I've all but ordered my acrylic tank but then wondered if my big ole midas could actually scratch it with his teeth ? he doesn't back down from anything near his tank, just wondering if anyone has had the fish scratch one.

Some plecos can damage acrylic. I really don't think that your Midas will. As much attitude that it has and as bad *** that you think it might be, I don't think that it can hurt your tank.

he sure does put a hurtin on my gravel vac (never have checked it for bite marks though) , I can tell you he's bitten me a few times , once he left little scars in the shape of his mouth, he knocks the tank lid up when he wants attention, I wouldn't put it past him to try, anyone who actually has an acrylic with bully fish out there?

I had a big Oscar that used to go psycho on the tank wall every so often and when I drained the tank I noticed light zig-zag scratches. They were not visible until I drained the tank though.

I would say, if you plan on buying an acrylic tank, go into it expecting it to get some scratches...it's almost inevitable, but for big tanks, acrylic is definitely the way to go.

I like Chris' idea though...you can test it out and see if he does any damage. My local acrylic shop sells scrap pieces for really cheap, so it would be a fairly cheap experiment (especially relative to the cost of a new tank).

I'm going to use Chris's idea , I can get a piece of acrylic from work , as I am a sign fabricator -installer, I'll make a divider out of it and and put one of my tough little carpintis in there to get him fired up shouldn't take long to find out, thanks for the idea!
