Hey MFK

I just picked up an acrylic tank made by sea clear that has some bowing on the front panel.

To me the bowin is severe it bows about a half inch on the front panel.

Got it for free and its very cloudy and in need of buffing.

My question is how much can these tanks bow before they fail?

Acrylic will always bow a little, how much is the question.

The entire thing being cloudy just means the previous owner scratched it, the key thing to look at is the seams in the corners. If it is bowing to the point it is stressing the seam it'll show crazing / cracks / bubbles.

Acrylic will almost never catastrophically fail, the biggest annoyance with a cheaply made (ie, too thin acylic) is having that bow distorts the look of the fish, and personally if I look at something like that too long it'll give me headaches (its almost like looking through prescription eyeglasses or something...).

Is it braced properly?

If your referring to the top than yes.

All the seams are clear with a few tiny bubbles here and there.

Hey guys I recently filled my used 300 gallon
(96x24x30 Sea clear 1/2 thickness )and have also noticed What I fee is significant bowing mostly towards the center of the front and rear panels the top looks to be braced proper no cracks right damage and the Three Openings are pretty small for a tanks this size
From the top view it looks square
it’s just the center of the front and back
I recently test filled it to about 70% and let it sit for a month with success But never noticed the bowing since my original stand sat lower
And Input or advice I’ve recently been a little paranoid in acrylic tanks seeing a fellows members tank burt
Thanks for the input in advance
