This is for sale but the guy says it was made wrong with 1/2 inch rather than 3/4 inch.
He said t should only be filled 24 inches high rather than 30 because it bows.
It's a 300 gallon.

Couldn't someone just use Weldon 40 on all the seams to reinforce?
Or is this not a good buy for a fish tank.

Unless it's brand new, I wouldn't even buy it to use with partial water or no water since it's acrylic and even small scratches will be very visible. Full of water and those same scratches would be invisible.

You are 100% correct… 3/8-1/2” fillets of weld on #40 will go a very long way to reinforce this tank. Its “nice” the seller is at least being honest in what he knows. It was also very common place for this size tank to be made in 1/2” material in the past. Offer $500 and see what happens. $650 still isnt all that terrible of a price if its in good shape.
I have a 450g 8’x3’x32” and it has 1/2” front and back, 3/8” bottom, 3/4” sides and 1” top sheet/braces… the tank is well over 30+ yrs old and still holds water. Sure it bows but all acrylic does. Some more than others. I also have a 230g 5’x3’x2’ in 3/8” material. Just as underbuilt as that 300 and it bows and holds fine. Both of these tanks were reinforced with weld on 40 but held water prior.
Heres the best one for ya lol… have a 500g double bull nose tank thats 40+ years old now. It was factory made back when with 1/2” fillets of weld on #40. Dimensions are 10’x3’x32” and the rounded ends are only 3/8”. Front back and bottom are 1/2” and the top is 1”…

Builders stopped using #40 fillets and started using thicker material more recently. I personally dont mind the bowing and appreciate how easy it is to move larger tanks built with 40 and thinner material. Each way works… each way has pros and cons as always. Tenecor was a reputable company for a long number of years. Other brands like clarity plus skimped on material also. I had a 180g 4’x2’x3’ in 1/2” and no reinforcement that was fine, i ran it for over 10yrs and sold it. Common to find standard 180 6’x2’x2’ in 3/8” as well. Theres plenty of 4’ tall tanks in 3/4”-1”.

Seems like u understand how to improve it and id do the same. $75 for. Cple pints of #40 will make those seams about bulletproof. You can alleviate a bit of pressure/bowing by dropping the water level 1-3”. Down to 24” is unnecessary imo tho.

As always you come in to clear the storm. Thank you for all that.

No problem man 💀🤙. Ive seen quite a few of these running in person being in ohio where tenecor was located. They used to come with an all acrylic stand that looked scarier than the tanks lol…

It's a peninsula tank that has overflow box at the end. That might've a challenge to use Weldon 40 around

Have to tip the tank to pour seams/fillets of 40 neway… as long as theres enough room to get ur hand in there u should b fine. If not id just seal outside the box. The box itself is providing extra support on the tank also. Does the box run top to bottom?
