So, I have decided to use a sump ilter and my fluval fx5 on my acrylic tank. The top off the tank has a 3/8 piece of acrylic covering in save openings for the fish and overflow. The previous owner had a 1" hole cut (not cleanly) into the acrylic for tubing, however the hole is not big enough for fx5 tubing. Any thoughts on how to increas the diameter of this hole?

Hope I can explain this ok. To get a clean hole use a hole saw drill thru a piece of wood say around 3/4" thick. Once you have done that if you have anyway to securely clamp it to the tank you now have a guide for the whole saw to follow.

Exactly the right way to do it.
