I found an odd ball acrylic 300 gal tank on CL that I consider useless like it is, but was thinking about getting and modifying. it is 4x2.5x4 ft. Too dang tall! What do you guys think about laying it on it's side and making it square? I would "just" need to get a piece of acrylic for the end, and cut out the top. Potential problems I see, are the need to leave some of the old side in the new top for support. I was only going to offer $200 for it, and figure an end piece would cost me around $100 plus the solvent. I am sure I could learn plenty on youtube about how to polish the edges out. I don't know yet if it is drilled, the lady doesn't know, just wants it gone. The one picture doesn't show much. I think square would be pretty neat, if I can find the right place to put it. Like most things I plan on doing, there is something major I am not thinking of. Tell me what they are, please.

If you can get it for the right price I think this has potential. What you're suggesting would be my first choice.

I'm assuming what is going to be the top of this tank is quite thick so cutting out the top is not something to take lightly but shouldn't be a huge problem.

I'm assuming the current top is a panel with cutouts? If that's the case I think your best bet is to just polish that and solvent weld a thinner piece "face-to-face" with that. Cutting a piece or pieces to fit inside perfectly will not be easy.

That won't look great so you'll probably want that back to a wall which means the current bottom will be a main viewing panel of the tank. Might require a lot of polishing.

Also, if there is a center brace on the current top of the tank then you might be able to use your "side" cut out to cover the current top.

If you buy the tank post back with some pictures.

She is asking way too much, so I will wait before I make an offer. Yes, I figured I could get away with patching the holes out of the "scrap" and that would be the back. Originally I thought about cutting off the top and putting a whole new piece on. I have a small grainy picture of it from the ad. Just playing the waiting game for now. I was gonna offer $200 for it. Only a crazy person would want to use like it is! It is only good as a giant neon tetra school tank
