was at my hardware store today and saw they sold acrylic panels, says it is 10 times strong then glass, the biggest thickness is 1/4", they had pre-cut pieces good to make a 4'x2'x'2' about 90 gallons i believe, would 1/4 thick acrylic be ok for a 90 gallon tank? and how strong is the silicon bond?

4x2x2 would be about 120

be glad your wrong

i would

more water!!! :headbang2

Silicon is not what is use it needs heat bonded together with special equipment.

unless youve done it before or have somone around whos has/knows how to i wouldnt suggest it.my neighbor made a 150 acrylic and it held water for about two months.then were there watching the superbowl and decided to turn up the subwoofer a little...... CRASH!!!!!!
150 gallons of water definately showed that subwoofer whos boss......poor mackie, now he needs to pay at least $1,000 for a new sub before he can even worry about replacing the fish or the tank.he didnt even save very much money making it himself in the first place.

1/4 inch is VERY iffy for 2 foot deep tank, i'd go with 1/2 inch. To bond it you will need pleximent-or something like that. It actually melts the sides that you are connecting, and the bond will be stronger than the rest of the tank if you do it well.

exacly what my neighbor did.he followed the instructions pretty carefully.i still say if this is your first attempt at constucting your own tank than theres a good chance the next pics we see from you are going to be of you mopping your floor.

There are lots of reasons not to build this tank. Here's another: You should only use cell-cast acrylic. It costs more than the stuff they sell at the hardware store. Don't get confused, there are many kinds of acrylic. Only 2 or 3 are right for the job but each of the 2 or 3 is made from cell-cast.
