Does anyone know of a company in the Milwaukee, Wi area that repairs acrylic tanks? I have a 540 gallon acrylic tank that has a seam that is starting to separate. I need to get this fixed if possible, but I do not want to attempt this myself. The tank is surrounded by hardwood floors that would be ruined if the tank failed. Thanks!

You can do this yourself. Acrylic cement has a consistency like water. A injection like needle is normally used when cementing plexiglass together. Just inject the cement into the seam the glue will fill by capillary action. You will be able to see the clear cement fill the seam up then clamp the area together. The cement will chemically rebond the seam.

I was hoping to find a professional to do this. 540 gallons of fish water would cause thousands of dollars of damage to my house.I'd rather pay a few bucks to make sure the job gets done right. The spot in the seam that has separated is 3" long, and about 3/8" wide. It is white and chalky looking.

I would suggest going to you LFS and see if they know of anyone.

If you're in Milw, call Aquatics Unlimited on HWY 100.. I haven't found anything they can't answer yet - even if they can't fix it, I'm sure Jim knows someone that can. They've been around 40+ years.

Yes when inject the cement it will go clear and you can see the cement fill the seam. Once you see its all filled the cement will chemically melt the acrylic and rebond the seam. I wouldn't pay to have this done you could do this they will do the same thing.

The tank is 96"x36"x36". I saw the pictures of the seams on your tank. My bad seam has a spot that is much smaller than what I saw on yours. Do you have any pictures of what the seams on your tank looked like after you repaired them? How long has it been since your repair? Any issues? Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. I called Aquatics Unlimited before I posted here. They also suggested I do it myself. They did not know of anyone that offered repair services. I guess it's an issue of liability if the tank leaks and does damage to your house.
