I have been planning a build of a large tank for some time now.
Like everyone else I have been constantly changing my mind between plywood and acrylic.
In reasearching acrylic suppliers in Montreal, Canada I came across Johnston Industrial Plastics (http://www.johnstonplastics.com)
I noticed on their site they had a section labeled Hot Air Welding.
I may not be the first person to find this but what had me thinking was the welding tools for acrylic.
Instead of using weld on or other chemicals would it be easier to weld with one of these tools?
And depending on the price would it worth it?
Here is the link to the tools:

Let me know what you guys think!!!

Looks interesting.

I think you'd be hard pressed to get a 4-6 foot long piece of acrylic to weld waterproof and strong enough for a tank though. You would have to have the entire length heated just right all at once. Too hot and it warps or burns. Too cool and BOOM swimming pool in the fish room when you fill it. Just my thoughts. Could be wrong.

good point but I have no idea how the tool works.
I woul dthink you could do it bit by bit, when you use the chemical you have to work your way the length of the tank, so in theory I would imagine this being the same...

Not sure. I'm a glass guy. Saw too many issues with acrylics so have stayed away from them. Some people swear by them though.
