Just Picked up a used 65 gallon Flat back hexagon aquarium yesterday. The original owner had had it on a stand that did not support the bottom. Now the bottom is warped about 1/4-1/2 inch low. I'm going to be building a custom bottom supporting stand, and I'm worried it might stress the bottom. It will be pressing up about a half inch. Think I'll have to worry about any seems leaking or bottom cracking???

If it was me I would put it somewhere water isn't a problem and slowly fill it to gradually (hopefully) flatten it out before going any further

I am also a 100% glass tank guy so acrylic is alien to me

If it doesn't leak, you should be fine. Acrylic properties allow it to have some "give and take" to it (unlike glass), and minor bowing is acceptable (my 15 year old, 100 gallon acrylic has some minor bowing in the front). I don't know how you would flatten it, but maybe try putting the tank on a flat stand with a 1/2 inch of Styrofoam to compensate for the bowing.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Anyone have pics of a acrylic seems failing? I'm afraid the tank may have been stressed from lack of support. I'd fill it up outside for a test, but if it doesn't leak is there still a chance of a blowout later???

I have inspected the seams. There is no whitening, but there is a lot of spider cracks on almost all the seems. Not sure if that is just natural with a old tank? I think I'll just fill it up outside, and see what happens. Oh yah, I live in an apartment and I also don't have renters insurance, might not be a bad investment with this tank.

here's a couple pictures of the seams. It's really hard to get a good pic of them, so hopefully this will help. Ignore all the scratches, it's the bottom. Plus I'm going to be completely sanding and refinishing the tank.100_0819.JPG

Ok. I'll try it out. This is my first acrylic so when I started hearing about blowouts I was getting a little worried. Thanks I feel a little better about it.
