Looking at a 600Gallon tank (2400 litres)
just wondering, cos acrylic seems to be very cost effective, must must more, as in, 60% to 70% cheaper.

how easy is it to avoid scratches on them? no kids around ok.
also was thinking of putting a thin film on the outside at the front used in household windows, clear to protect it.
any ideas?

feedback?
i dont want the tank to be so extremely scratched.
mag float offers a product especialy for acrylic.
is that ok?

My experience is that they are a lot more prone to scratching, but they are very easy to repair with a good kit. They are delicate and I wouldn't trust any algae magnet without help. I have an Algae free magnet that still can scratch the panel even though it's supposed to be for acrylic. I cut a piece of microfibertowel and that sits between the magnet and the tank.

Ive done small repairs with water in one during a water change. Very easy to work with, but they are more prone than glass for scratches......

Acrylic has come a long way over the years. They do not scratch as easy in the past. They are also pretty easy to repair. Good luck.

I use the acrylic mag floats on mine but I put pieces of felt pad on both sides just as a little protection. It still scratches fairly easy. I use Novus polish with cotton t-shirt to wipe it down once a week

I Like acrylic tanks, they are the only tanks I use. I've never had a problem with it yellowing like some people mention.
I use sand for substrate my tank & as for the outside scratching I recently bought a used sea clear that had light scratching in the front, I hit it with some wax and it was gone

cheaper for monster tanks, lighter to move, clear, very prone to scratching but that can be minimized but you have to be careful when cleaning glass. flexible to drill and modify if needed.

dobie pads are good for cleaning acrylic.

acrylic + panaque = white box.

Ive heard that too, but I must admit I've had a L204 for about 4 years in 2 different acrylics and he won't attach to the front panel hardly ever. Maybe keeping the front panel clean helps, plus I have a ton of wood. I would be hesitant to try any of the larger ones though.
