Anyone ever buy an acrylic tank from glasscages.com? Have you heard any good or bad news about their acrylic tanks from a friend? Any other good places sell them cheap? I'm looking to buy a 125-gallon in the next 60 days. Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks.

I have been doing some reading on diffrent tanks, and while acrylic tanks are generally cheaper and lighter, I have read that over time they tend to bow out and warp the view. Also there soft so a fish can actually scratch the inside of the tank our you can putting stuff in and its difficult to clean that out and algae grows in the crack, but price and wieght cant be beat

Acrylic is more for the show, and does bow, but if you want to have your tank look really good, I do reccomend Acrylic over glass.
Acrylic is light, more expensive, and gives a show look to your aquarium (IMO).
Glass is just too heavy...

But that is off topic...
About the glass cages... I have not bought and havent thought about buying from them for awhile...
I have heard that most of their tanks tend to get cracks in them after awhile of holding water and sitting there...
I would probably either reccomend going with tenecor.com or seeing what good deals you can find in your classifieds or ebay.

I heard some people have had problems with their glass tanks breaking. Someone said the problem is the bottom pane isn't made with tempered glass and that you must use foam between the glass tank and stand to support the weight. I checked the web site and it does state that foam must be used or else it voids the warranty.

What I'm asking is, are there any MFK's that own an acrylic tank from glasscages If so were you happy with what you got? Any problems? I checked tenecor and they are asking $700+ for a 125gl, while glasscages is asking $340 for a 135gl. Big price difference! I know of one quality differences with the tenecor is the seamless corners which is a big plus. But Not worth $360 more for me. I hope someone bought one of there arcylics and can share the info. Thanks.

hate to hijack this thread but i was also looking at possibly buying from classcages. when you say they tend to crack after holding water for some time is that only for glass tanks or does that happen to their acrylic tanks as well?

I moved this to the general discussion formula as you will get more response here, most tanks do not use tempered glass. There are a couple people who have stated they don't like glasscages tanks but I don't know if this is due to personal experience or hearsay, several members own and like their tanks, BeBlondie comes to mind.

Thanks guppy!

I was referring to the glass ones. But like guppy mentioned it could be rumors. I don't know anything about the acrylic ones, that's why I'm asking. I saw some photos and they are built different than all the others I've seen. It basically looks like a glass tank, only with acrylic. I'm not sure if that design will last over time.

i can speak first hand on the bottom of tanks blowing out. i had an eclispse system that i paid about $400 for. it was a55gallon. i believe that it was a marinland tank. lost all my fish in the floor. might have just been a bad experience but i would rather spend a little more money and get a 75 gallon to get the thicker glass and have a better peice of mind while im asleep or out of town. (i loved the hood on that eclispe, tank was just a lemon)

i was looking at them, but they want 110 dollars to ship a 90 gallon tank. I know its expensive shipping something that big, but i'll pass. :)
