I am shopping around for acrylic prices to make an 8x4x2.5 LxWxH aquarium and depending one which acrylic calculator I use a get different thicknesses :screwy:.
Garf gives me half inch which is cheaper than thicker acrylic.
I can't open http://www.sdplastics.com/aquaria1.html this file to do the calculation so can someone do the calculation for me please.

I am in France on holidays and my girlfriends parents computer won't open the XLS file for some reason.

I need a reliable thickness to get a quote on the tank either made for me or the pieces cut to size so I can make it.
Your help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Using 1/2" inch acrylic on that will bow :) You can have as much bracing on the top as you;d like.. But the tank will bow using half inch ;)

It will likely work... But Bowing tanks ANNOY the heck out of me and mess with my brain :) So personally I would rather go thicker ;) But that is just me :)

Great thanks man that was quick, what was the thickness the calculator on the sticky recommended because I can't open the XLS link.
An acrylic fabricator in Melbourne who is doing the quote for me questioned the 1/2 inch acrylic so I thought I better double check so I get the right qoute.

at 96 L x 30 H It says 1.074

Oh and that says with and enclosed top.... And with a non enclosed top it says 1.611 inches thick....

That's a pretty big difference.

I have to agree that the extra money spent for the thicker acrylic will be well worth it. You will forget the extra cost sooner than you will forget bad quality.

Thanks for your help with the calculator guys I will get costings for 3/4 and 1inch tanks and acrylic cut to size.
I have a feeling though the price of glass will be very hard to beat.
I have been quoted under $2000 for the tank and stand in glass but I just want to shop around.
Neoprodigy had a Tenecor acrylic of the same dimensions made from 3/4 inch except it has a 1inch back and 1/4 inch bottom which I can't work out why there's such differences in tank construction .

I will keep you all posted though, thanks again though :)

I have a Tenecor that's almost the same dimensions....... 4 by 10 by 2.5. It.s .75 all the way around.

I would think that if .75 is fine for a 10 footer it should be fine for an 8.

Thanks for your help guys as the cost difference between 3/4 and 1 inch acrylic would be a bit I imagine.
