Found a good deal on a 8'x4'x2'H tank but the acrylic is only 1/2". Is that gonna be a problem?

I know the recommended thickness is 3/4" for a big tank this size but the seller says the tank has been used for several years with no problem and because of the 2' height, 1/2" is enough. Is that true?

Thanks much for any input.

It is true that ifnin good shape the tank is structurally sound. Having said that it will bow on the front panel. Moreso if the acrylic is a lesser quality brand. It’s common to use 1/2” on the top and bottom even on tanks with 3/4” walls.

If the deal is good and you don’t mind the bow rock out! I would

Thanks Justin. If the bowing in the front panel is not really noticable with a naked eye, I will probably take it then. I just wanted to make sure it is not gonna cause a major flood in my house later. My wife will kill me if that happens lol.

Welcome to the murdered if this goes wrong camp LOL.. we have lots of members

Make sure the seams are clear and bubble free. Seams are what should make one question a 1/2” tank. Poor seams is a no go for thinner wall material.
