where my cichla are
i'm contemplating buying a 400 gal aquarium. it's acrylic and the guy says it's 3/4" thick. dimensions are 96 x 30 x 36 inches.

how badly is this going to bow when it's full? and is it gonna look awful? I seriously need a tank this big sooner rather than later.. and it's a good deal if it isn't going to be the ugliest thing in my house when all is said and done.

ok, i realize that the guys in that frequent this forum are wolf3101's buddies. But i asked this question so i could buy a tank to keep HIS fish. His RTC is outgrowing the tank she's in by leaps and bounds.

The 240 in the garage isn't going to be big enough and i only wanted to have to move her once before she has to go into a pond or wolf3101 comes to get her, whichever comes first.

but thanks to all the help his GOOD buddies offered, she is still stuck in the 100 gallon tank that he left her in. and it's going to take me a few months to save up enough money to buy a big enough brand new tank for her.

hope yer all happy.

I can't offer any first hand experience on that. I am getting ready to fill my 8 Ft, but thats only 24" high. 36" is a whole other story, yet 3/4 seems pretty damn thick. I woudl want to say it shoudln't bow too much with 3/4"...
Really I am just kinda trying ot bump your thread back up :)

3/4 shouldn't bow at all. That's built like an armored tank.

Tenecor just quoted a price for me on a 96 x 48 x 24 tank with 1/2" acrylic and they have a lifetime leakage warranty. That is only 24" deep as opposed to 30", but 80 gallons more volume.

maybe instead of getting mad at everyone on here you should get mad at wolf3101 for buying a RTC when he only has a 100gal, and a 240 would be better then a 100....

but if the tank is till available then get it...

if anything I think i would be more worried about putting a cat in an acrylic tank. It will more then likely be hard to see into the tank by the time its all done.

unfortunately i missed out on the tank.. which is part of the reason i was so upset. it was a new 400 gal acrylic tank that the guy had bought and never used.. was sitting on his back porch with it's stand and plumbing not ever hooked up.

but all of my tanks are glass, i've always been very shy of acrylic.. i don't like it, and i've seen how bad it can get when you buy cheap tanks that aren't designed correctly for the water pressure in the tank (my sister has an 80 gallong acrylic tank that resembles a water ballon.. lol).

and yea.. i'm mad at wolf3101 for lots of things.. but leaving his fish here for me to care for isn't one of them. I just wish he would come and get them sooner rather than later.

thanks for the response guys.. i guess better late than never applies. now i have a clue what to look for if another deal comes along. and it means i'm going to have to get to work on the 240 because it's my only other short term option.

by the way.. this is the same 240 that wolf3101 was supposed to reseal and build the stand for 2 years ago.. lol.

sounds like you may need to find a new friend ;)
